EXPANDING THE DISCOURSE FROM ACCESS TO AESTHETICS
Step Right Up aims to brings together disabled and non-disabled theatre producers in a creative exploration of the peculiar innovations found in disability aesthetics. Thanks to tremendous, collective effort the inclusion of disabled artists is now a given. Most producers have gained expertise in accessibility for artists and audiences as a result; and so many resources now exist for those who haven't. So Step Right Up doesn't focus on access, but shifts our collective gaze on to some uniquely inventive theatre practices, that put disability/ disablement centre stage. In disability-specific ways, that Canadian audiences haven't even begun to be given access to! We welcome you to explore Stage Left Productions's creative case for disability theatre in Canada – and beyond.
